Pura Vida - Who We Are

Kristin Reisinger and Helen O'Brien-Parker met in 1998 working at an Irish bar in Hoboken, NJ. Helen disliked Kristin at the start because of Kristin's healthful and seemingly snobbish puritanical ways. Helen finally warmed up to Kristin and they have been juicing together ever since. Not long after they met, a tandem summer traveling the Hawaiian islands sealed their mutual love of all things tropical and the seed of 'Puravida' was planted.

Continuing to nurture this seed, summers surfing the New Jersey shore came and went. Fruit smoothies were blended and consumed. Good times were had. On a weekday afternoon in 2005 while most people were at work, Helen and Kristin, "ladies of leisure," were hanging out on the beach together planning to head to their favorite local smoothie and sandwich joint nearby for lunch. The idea of opening a similar beach-style lunch spot in Jersey City was mentioned, and 'Puravida' was born.

Locations came and went, but it wasn't until January 2007 that the perfect opportunity to make this dream become a reality presented itself with the help of Billy Santomauro. Mastermind behind the Basilico condominiums located in McGinley Square, Jersey City, Santomauro encouraged the ladies of leisure that McGinley Square was an up and coming area with a strong need for something like 'Puravida'. On Tuesday April 10th, 2007, 'Puravida' opened it's doors to the residents of McGinley Square, Jersey City.

Kristin Reisinger, MS, RD, Co-Owner and Founder, has had a love of healthy food and fitness for the past 10 years. A Registered Dietitian and fitness guru, Kristin loves anything outdoors including snowboarding in the Sierras, yoga in Tulum, Mexico or just a nice long run with her pal, Helen, in Liberty State Park. Most famous for reporting her car stolen when it was parked around the corner, Kristin also loves to travel incognito nearly anywhere in the world. Favorite destinations include Nicaragua, Beijing for the weekend and Pinehurst, North Carolina. Kristin also loves dogs, surfing and good coffee.

Helen O'Brien, Co-Owner and Founder, has been working in the restaurant industry since she could stand upright. An avid snowboarder, health food freak and juicer, Helen is most famous for slinging cocktails at Hoboken's Madison Bar and Grill. She is also often mistaken for either of her sisters putting her above the Mayor as the most recognized face of Jersey City. Helen loves a good cup of coffee, wine on weekday afternoons and her husband, Eric. She also loves to travel with Eric to worldly destinations such as Australia, Central America and Monmouth Junction, New Jersey.
